In an on-going effort to support Sunapee short term rental owners, as well as offer education and reassurance to community members, the Lake Sunapee Short Term Rental Association offers these suggestions to STR owners to be outstanding hosts:

1) Provide information to your guests about Sunapee’s ordinances regarding trash, Dewey Beach use, noise, parking, pet-leashing, boating laws, etc.  A well-informed guest will better understand our unique town culture, and, be more likely to comply with the town laws that we all are subject to.

2) Engage a local contact to offer “eyes-on” services to your rental if you do not live locally. The registration forms require that a STR owner provide a local contact person's name and phone number who can be on site if needed within 2 hours.  If you need assistance to identify a local contact person, reach out to us and we may be able to assist to pair you with an appropriate person(s).   

 

3) Consider the benefit of a local contact: s/he will be the first point of contact in the event of any issues.  A contact person offers a great reassurance to neighbors and reminds guests that they are accountable to a local person to follow your house rules as well as the town’s laws.

4) Use local resources for any of the upkeep needs of your home. Cleaning, construction, light carpentry, painting, lawn maintenance, plowing, trash removal, etc. Keeping this work local helps keep Sunapee dollars local. A boost for the town’s overall economy!

5) Provide community engagement.  Consider supporting local resources, by joining the Lake Sunapee Protective Association or donating to the Sunapee Garden Club.  Contribute to unique Sunapee events, such as: the annual cereal drive, Christmas Giving Tree, sponsor a child for summer camp, give to the Police Benevolent Fund, or shop for donations to give to the food bank, etc.  Develop a "give back" mindset!
