NH STR Legal Updates

Worth Noting: ​

In September, 2024, the town of Conway suspended their STR ordinance until March, 2025 town vote due to an error in how the ordinance was written.  Hence, they have also suspended enforcement of STR

regulations and registration. ​

Another NH STR legal win on May, 15, 2024... Right in Sunapee!!

After two years of the case making its way through the court system, the NH Supreme Court ruled in favor of an STR owner: they are permitted to rent a camper on their

property as an STR.

AND OTHER NH STR LEGAL NEWS

 

January, 2024 in the Cohen vs Freedom case heard before the NH Housing Appeals Board, the court found in favor of the Cohen family in that their STR was "a preexisting, nonconforming use" and therefore is not required to follow the town's new STR regulations.

May 2023, the Supreme Court of NH ruled in favor of a homeowner's right to rent their house as an STR in the Conway v Kudrick case.  Visit our news page to read the verdict.  This landmark case was good news for STR owners as it sets a precedent for other NH towns!

Lake Sunapee Short Term Rental Association was formed in 2022 by Sunapee short term rental (STR) owners and pro-STR business associates.  The LSSTRA exists to work with STR owners, community members, business owners, town officials, and other interested parties to advocate for STR homeowners, provide education about the benefits of STR tourism in the Lake Sunapee region, and support business, land and civil resource stewardship.
